About

Hello, there!
I'm Cheryl, and I'm so glad you stopped by!

Growing up, there were five cherished dreams in my little-girl heart.
To follow Jesus, to be a wife, to be a mother, to write, and to sing.

Dream #1 comes true for me every day I live and breathe.
Being Jesus' disciple brings the deepest sense of peace.

Dream #2 came true over 35 years ago when I walked down the aisle, pledged my heart and hand, and married my best friend, the man of my dreams, and the love of my life.  He is my soulmate and the completer of who I am.

Dream #3 came true when after 12.5 years of infertility struggles, God sent us a healthy, beyond precious baby boy.  All glory to GOD.  This boy continually blesses us and graces our lives and home with more love than our hearts can hold.  Being his Mama is one of the sweetest joys I have ever known, and our homeschooling journey is a gift for which I will never be able to thank God enough.

Dream #4 started coming to fruition in October 2011 when I began writing this blog. What I didn't know during all those years blogging is God was having me write devotionals that would later be turned into a series of books. The first of those books, Homespun Devotions: Volume One, was published in August of 2021.

To order "Homespun Devotions: Volume One," click here.

I also saw Dream #4 fulfilled when God blessed me to write and publish a book that documents much of our minimizing journey and the many spiritual lessons He has taught us along the way.

To order "Biblical Minimalism: Following Jesus from a Life of Abundance to a More Abundant Life," click HERE.

Dream #5 comes true each time I pick up my guitar and sing with my friends in a band called Mountain Hope. Bluegrass/mountain music courses through the fabric of who I am.  It connects me to my past and keeps my feet on the ground.  I never hear the sound of a five-string banjo without thinking of my Daddy and missing him and Mom so much it hurts.
How I wish they were still here to hear us sing.

I point you to no denomination, religious group, or sect.
I point you only to the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ,
where redemption, restoration, healing, and peace still freely and lavishly flow.

Homespun Devotions is His place—a homespun, multicolored quilt of thoughts, stitched together by the common thread of the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Thanks for reading what He places on my heart!

  11. Hi Cheryl - I really enjoyed your article Five Steps to Overcoming Regret. Such useful tools how to ‘let it go’. YOur photo at the top with the wharf going off into the water is lovely - is it your photo? Would you give me permission to use it? I also write a blog where those kinds of photos support content of moving ahead, having hope, not giving up, etc. Thank you for considering my request and God bless you in your writing and sharing.

  15. Hi, Ms. Cheryl! I am Raneza and I'm from the Philippines. I came across your article on No Sidebar just today and I'm truly blessed with it. I have been opened to the minimalism journey since 2016 when I saw a documentary. Ever since, I have learned to tackle every of my life to minimize. However, I also have been searching for more depth on this very convincing lifestyle - something that feeds my spiritual life as well. I am a believer of Jesus and I'd love to read more of your writings. Hopefully, I can also share in my circles here. It hasn't been becoming popular and the language of the lifestyle is alien to many of us here.

    1. Oh, how wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment here. I used to write to a dear pen pal in the Philippines, and I have so often wondered what became of her through the years. I am so thankful you were blessed by my article, and how wonderful that you began your minimizing journey in 2016! YES, that is what we have so often looked for - a more in-depth approach to this from a spiritual level. All of our lives, as Christians, should be viewed through "what would JESUS do?" Please do feel free to share with us, Raneza! I hope the Lord will continue to lead and guide you and that you will feel welcome and comfortable to pass along those lessons to us here. You could be the voice in your part of the world to share the Gospel and how Jesus does not want us to be in love with the things of this world. Perhaps you are the trailblazer He needs in that area. May He bless you as you continue to follow Him with your whole heart!
