The Love Story of David & Wanda

"Love cannot be drowned by oceans or floods. It cannot be bought--any offer would be scorned no matter how great."

"The Love Story of David & Wanda"

"My husband & I met on Yahoo Personals.  His wife had passed away, & I was divorced.  We had created profiles, which was free.  His profile nickname was ‘Mr. Bluegrass,’ which caught my eye because I love bluegrass.  I sent him an ‘icebreaker’ message that said, ‘Am I your type?’  He wrote me right back with a short message.  When I tried to respond to him, I could not without paying money for a subscription.  I waited almost a month to decide if I wanted to subscribe.  I finally subscribed for 1 month for $19.95, so I could answer him.  I joke & tell him that I got him for $19.95!

We then started emailing back & forth.  We met in person on Oct. 8, 2004.  We decided to meet at a public place, which was a gas station with two restaurants inside.  They had a few tables outside, so we said we would meet there.  It just so happened that a bluegrass band was there that night playing music outside just over from the tables.  This group did that on Friday nights.

I, of course, had worried about what I was going to wear, & after changing multiple times, chose a black/white, checked dress w/sunflowers embroidered on it.  It was a sleeveless jumper w/a jacket over it.  I was so nervous.  I got there early, & my redneck cousin showed up.  When I told him I was meeting someone, he wanted to stick around & meet him.  I got rid of him, just as David walked up & sat down at one of the outside tables.

He did not see me just yet.  So, I walked over to him, stuck my hand out, & said, ‘You must be David.’  He looked up at me & said, ‘Lord have mercy!’ & looked away.  I had no idea what to do!  I kind of slumped down on the bench & said, ‘Was that a good ‘Lord have mercy’ or a bad ‘Lord have mercy’.  He said, ‘Give me a minute.’

He recovered, & we started talking.  We hit it off very well.  We talked awhile, then went inside, got some ice cream, & talked some more.  I think I fell in love instantly because he was so much like my dad.  Later that night, he told me that he almost passed out when I walked up.  He said his deceased wife had a dress just like the one I was wearing!!!

We then decided that we would go to the local apple festival the next day.  He said he would come pick me up, & he asked me for my address.  I told him he could just follow me to my house if he wanted to, that it was just two miles away.  He said, 'Sure.'

At the time, I was living in my parents’ basement since my divorce.  I called my mom on the way there & told her that he was coming to the house.  I told her I really liked him, & he was so sweet.  He followed me home, was going to leave, but I talked him into coming in.  We talked until after 11 pm that night.

So, we started dating.  He told me a week or so later, that the night he was coming to meet me, before he left the house he prayed & asked God to show him a sign if I was the one.  He said when I had that dress on that was his sign!

He told me that he loved me on Nov. 1.  We were engaged on New Year’s & got married on July 2, 2005.  We get along so well & have so many things in common.  His wife & my ex-husband were both bipolar, we love bluegrass, & we are 1 year & 11 months apart, just like my parents.  My parents love him, which makes me so happy.  My ex didn’t really have any family, so it didn’t mean anything to him.  My parents tried to be nice to him, but he wouldn’t come around them much.

It hasn’t all been a bed of roses, but for the most part, David and I have a great life together!"

A BIG thank you to David & Wanda for sharing their amazing story with us!  Wanda has been one of my best girlfriends for many, many years.  She was the maid of honor in Kevin's and my wedding, and David just instantly felt like part of our family the minute we met him!  We could not ask for sweeter, more dear or precious friends, and Kevin, Zach, and I love David and Wanda with all our hearts!  We cherish the times we get to spend with them, and truly, they are family, not friends.  I wrote a post about Wanda shortly after starting this blog.  You can read it by clicking HERE!

Stay tuned for many more Love Story posts between now and Valentine's Day!

  8. Oh Cheryl, what a precious, precious God ordained couple! They are such a beautiful couple and reading their love story is quite amazing.
I always stand amazed at how God brings couples together this way, through the internet.
"Lord have mercy" that would have been a shocker to hear and not knowing why he said those words. :-) And what are the odds of her wearing that dress? Only God!
I very much enjoyed reading this love story~ thank you for sharing and thank you Wanda and David.
God bless you in your marriage.
