Our God is "Bigger Than This" ~ Powerful New Song by Jo Dee Messina

"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me?"
Jeremiah 32:27
(KJV)

Sometimes, I think about the people who take time out of their busy lives to visit here and listen to what the Lord places on my heart.
As I think of you, an image comes to mind, and I sort of drift off to an imaginary place.
Just for fun, will you join me today?
Let's say, God has orchestrated the details and made all of the arrangements, and through His Divine intervention, you and I have ended up on the same street corner where two busy boulevards connect.
Somehow, though we have never met face-to-face, we recognize each other instantly, and I say, "Oh, wow!  It's you!", To which you reply, "Cheryl!  Is that you?"
Suddenly the busy hustle and bustle and crowded noise around us come to a screeching halt, and we simultaneously reach for the door of the quaint, little cafe we both just noticed in front of us.
We lock arms, step inside, and find instant reprieve as the quiet so opposite the outside world wraps our souls in a warm blanket of peace and calm.
We choose a cozy table for two in the corner farthest from the door.  It feels like we've known each other for years and there is a sense of familiar ease between us.
Over steaming cups, I inevitably ask, "How are you doing?"

Though we aren't really in that cafe together, I really want to know, you know.
How are you doing?
How are you really doing?
I don't want the "passing-you-on-the-street-too-busy-to-really-care-or-listen" version.
I want to know how you're doing.

What is most bothering you today?  What feels out of balance?  What or who are you worrying about?  What keeps you awake at night?  Why are you crying?  Who hurt you?  What do you most regret?  Who do you miss the most?  How long since you broke out into a full belly laugh or even smiled?

Whatever it is, no matter how huge or horrible or scary or life-altering, here is my answer.

God is bigger.

Ephesians 3:20 says that He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think.

Genesis 18:14 asks, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?"

In Mark 10:27, Jesus said, "With men, it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible."

I John 4:4 says, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world."

Romans 8:37 says, "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us."

In 2 Kings 6:16, Elisha said, "Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them."

In Isaiah 43:1-3, God said, "Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine.  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour."

Joshua 1:9 says, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Hebrews 13:5 says, "He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Psalm 31:24 says, "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD."

Isaiah 41:10, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

In John 14:27, Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Psalm 46:1-3, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."

Romans 8:31 says, "If God be for us, who can be against us?"

Isaiah 40:28- says, "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of His understanding.  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint."

God is with you, my friend.
And, God is bigger than anything and everything you are walking through today.
He is walking through it with you.
Just like Jesus was with the three Hebrew children who were thrown into the fire (Daniel 3:24-25),
Jesus is in your situation and fiery trial with you.
He will not leave the fire one second before you do.

Last September, Jo Dee Messina was going through one of those very fiery trials,
and from the depths of her pain, she wrote a profoundly powerful song.
Please take a moment to listen to her sing it, and pay special attention to Mike Huckabee's introductory explanation of what Jo Dee was going through when she wrote it.

You can download this amazing song, sung so beautifully by Jo Dee, by clicking HERE.

I cannot begin to say how much this song is blessing my family and me right now,
and I know it will be a great encouragement to all who hear it.
Everyone is going through something, and everyone needs to be reminded that
OUR GOD IS BIGGER THAN THIS!

Let's get the word out and introduce this song to as many people as we can.

Be encouraged, dear friends, and if you ever need to talk or share a prayer request,
I am here.
As I type, I am praying for every person who ever reads these words.
God bless you!

  1. So many years of being in difficult situations with no one to turn to has increased my faith. He gets bigger as we went through each one. Hindsight is insight when God is in it. He loves to show us how big He was working in all thing pertaining to our life when we felt like He was not there. Love the song, the message Cheryl. Praying for sister.

    1. No wonder the Bible talks about going from "faith to faith". Our faith grows and intensifies as we go along, as you said. I am learning more and more about the levels of trusting God. I love what you said about hindsight is insight when God is in it. I love this song, too...oh, it is really encouraging us right now. God bless you, Betty!

  2. Dear Cheryl,
Thank you for this beautiful post full of such encouraging Scriptures. This is the one that is hitting home for me tonight: "salm 55:22 says, "Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." I remember the devotional that I read that says to think of the Lord taking your burden, and sustaining you then, as He will carry you, burden and all. I needed this precious reminder tonight with the things that are approaching for us. God is so good!! May He continue to carry you as well! Blessings, love and hugs to you. (P.S. Wouldn't it be so wonderful to meet up at a cafe like you described, and share our prayer requests together? So thankful that God joins us through HIS Spirit!)

    1. I am so thankful the Scriptures ministered to you, my friend! I am praying for you and trusting God to see you through all that lies ahead. Surely, He is so faithful. YES, it would be so wonderful to meet up and share our prayer requests together! We would probably break out into a regular prayer meeting right there, no matter who was around! LOL! So thankful for you and your precious encouragement. May the dear Lord bless you abundantly!

  3. Such a beautiful post today dear Cheryl. Oh, to be able to sit down together and just share our lives as they happen. I am so grateful that God has placed you in my life.
A small update. Baby Kara is 3 lbs now! Such a miracle. Her actual due date was this past week and she is making such miraculous leaps in her growth. Her Mommy and Daddy put all of the praise to God and the prayers of the Saints, just like you my dear Cheryl. She still has several hurdles she must pass before going home, but she is on her way!
A bit of bright news in a sometimes gloomy world. Be blessed my friend. Prayers are with you and your dear family.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. You know, it has taken me a few days to get to this post. I don't like to rush through your posts as there is always so much there to absorb (that's a GOOD thing!). God IS bigger than anything we face. This sounds silly to some but we unexpectedly had to put our little Cocker Spaniel down last night and I am so overwhelmingly sad. As an empty-nester, she was my constant companion during the day, following me from room to room. I know this is not a person, but I'm also grateful that my God hurts when we hurt, no matter what the reason. He cares about the smallest of details of our lives. I sometimes need to be reminded of that. Thank you for this timely post.

I just answered your email. Keep encouraged, my friend. God is right there with you carrying you through. Sending much love and many hugs your way!

  5. Thank you for sharing this awesome song, Cheryl...I have never heard it before and I must have missed that Huckabee show. What an awesome testimony to His power and glory! Oh how wonderful it would be if your little fantasy would come true. I would love to sit and chat with you in that cozy little spot. I am doing well but just the anticipation of what's down the road concerning my little health issue does weigh on my mind a bit at times. And then there's the dream of building our farmhouse and how those plans are a bit up in the air because of it. Considering everything, I do know that God has a perfect plan but I would be lying if I said it didn't bother me somewhat. When I think of what others are going through and have to deal with, I realize I need to count my blessings more often. God does care about even the smallest things that concern us and I trust that He continues to give me the patience to just keep trusting Him, no matter how long it takes for the answers to come. You are such a precious woman of God and I appreciate so much how you continually keep reaching out to encourage others, even when you have gone and are going through your own trials. I just wish I could reach through this screen and give you a big HUG! Thank you for this beautiful post, my sweet friend. ♥♥♥

I know God is in control, and He has wonderful things ahead for you. I wish I could give you a big hug, too! You are a precious encourager and friend to me. Sending much love and gratitude to you today!

  13. Oh my sweet dear friend! HOW I WISH we could sit together in a little cafe together... we would be there til closing... and then some... so much to talk about, share and pray! Oh yes, I just agree and say amen to your thoughts in this post, such an encouraging list of scriptures to stand upon when the darkness rolls around us. We can stand without fear on the foundation of knowing we are safe in HIS care. Oh yes sweet friend, God is bigger than all this! Thanks for sharing this beautiful song... I've sen it so many times, that deep grief bears upon its knees sweet joy in something new the Lord has done. The Lord takes us down the long dark road to bring us to a new level of light and faith in Him, indeed it is living from faith to faith. So thankful that we don't walk these dark roads alone, but in HIM we can have peace knowing He is bigger. Blessings to you sweet friend!

  14. God is bigger.

    Whew. Yes! He is.

    "What feels out of balance?"

This stuff with Syria. It weighs on my heart.

Glad I ran into you today at the coffee shop of Imaginary Town. :) Not worried about the laundry or the kids or the carbs from last night's Indian food.

  18. Good Morning Sweet Friend,
Thank you for sharing the sweet word of God and these comforting scriptures. This post will be my armor for the day as no matter where we are or what we do, there will always be the forces of darkness that try to steal our joy. What a great introduction that Mr. Huckabee gave of this brave woman and what a voice and what a song!
Blessings and Friendship to you always,
