To The Christian Who Is Thinking About Not Voting This Presidential Election

"If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14

Dear friends, this presidential election, I considered something I never, in my adult life, dreamed I would.
For a period of time, I strongly contemplated the possibility of not exercising my right to vote.
There have been moments through this election cycle that I have been so appalled,
I absolutely felt I could not, in good conscience, go to the polls and vote for either candidate.

Then, GOD began to deal with my heart.
He began to show me what is at stake.
He brought to my mind a mental image of the nearly 60 million little souls who have never been afforded the luxury of breathing their first breath of life...
never had the chance to throw a ball, fly a kite, or pet a puppy...
all because their mother "chose" to "end her pregnancy".
He reminded me of the vast number of them who have been brutally ripped and torn apart by the hands of "surgeons" who wish to "harvest" and sell their little body parts.

Oh, dear Lord!

Then, as I watched the last debate, I listened with my own ears
as the Democratic candidate stood in the face of Almighty God and every Christian in America
and adamantly declared that, if she is elected, she will do everything she can to support Planned Parenthood and what God calls abomination...
by appointing liberal judges to the Supreme Court.

Conviction settled deep within my heart, and I knew right then and there,
that to stay home and not do my part to vote against such evil was not an option.

My heart is so heavy...I don't ever remember feeling it weigh more.
I weep, and I weep, as I pour out my soul at the feet of Jesus...
begging forgiveness for the gross sins of our nation,
pleading with Him to please have

I considered not broaching the subject here, since I have talked about it so much over the past few years.
But, my soul cries out within me, and I have no choice.

"Oh, my anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain. Oh, the agony of my heart! My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent. For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry."
Jeremiah 4:19

Dear friends, I beg you to bear with me.
I don't mean to sound like a broken record.
Rather than reiterate so much that I have already said,
I feel God would have me share three things.

1.  A Sermon

If you are a Christian, and if you are considering NOT going to the polls to vote this presidential election, will you please just listen to this man preach?
I know it is a bit lengthy, but I can tell you that it is well worth your time to hear him out.
He so accurately articulates so much that is weighing upon my heart right now,
and the points he makes are SO sobering.
This is not fear tactics, my friends.
This is reality.
It is where we are.
Every Christian in America, who is on the fence about what to do regarding voting this year
needs to listen to this sermon with a heart wide open.
If you are thinking about not voting,
pay special attention to the time 50:34 on this video.

If video doesn't load, click HERE.

2.  A Letter
My dear friend, Laura, at Harvest Lane Cottage ,shared a very pertinent post the other day.
In it, she included a letter, written by Dutch Sheets.
If you are a Christian, and if you are considering not voting on Tuesday,
will you please consider reading what this man has to say?
You can find Laura's post, by clicking HERE.

3.  A Series of Blog Posts
If you have been following or reading Homespun Devotions for very long,
you will remember the extreme burden God laid upon my heart for our nation last July.
I entitled the series, "A Spoiled Church", you might recall.
These posts are very long and wordy, but if you care to read them,
you can find them by clicking the following links.

As I finished listening to the above sermon, I was bawling like a baby,
crying out to God, pleading with Him for His mercy.
NOT because we deserve mercy...but for the sake of the millions of babies yet to be aborted,
for the sake of our precious children and grandchildren and future generations,
for the preservation of our Christian liberties,
and so much more.

Dear ones, PLEASE PRAY.
And, please, please, PLEASE, go and vote for the candidate who aligns closest to your Christian values.
Thank you for hearing me out.

  1. I feel EXACTLY the same as you do Cheryl. May God have mercy on us as a nation, because by our actions we don't deserve mercy. I almost didn't vote either but changed my mind for exactly this reason. Thank you for this post. I haven't listened to the sermon yet, but I will.

    1. Thank you, sweet Betsy! Oh, the explains in such detail about all aspects. The Holy Spirit really anointed this man to cover it all. I am so thankful you are planning to listen, and your support and encouragement means the world to me. Praying for you. :)

  2. But Cheryl...although I understand and agree with your feelings and hate abortion, I do wonder how any woman can vote for a man who plainly disrespects women, and who seems to be a racist and a thoroughly unpleasant person. Forgive me if I'm out of line here. I can imagine how difficult it must be as neither candidate seems ideal. Also I can only go on the news and TV programmes that we have in UK, so may be getting a different slant.

    1. Dear, sweet Elizabeth! I know exactly how you feel about this, and I can surely understand the dilemma. What it all boils down to, is as the dear minister explained in the message. Words have not killed babies. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, but to vote for someone who will perpetuate abortion is absolutely not okay with me. And to sit home and not vote is like voting for her, in my opinion. This is how I personally felt led. And, also, I look at who Donald Trump surrounds himself with...if you delve into it, he is listening to spiritual leaders whom I trust and respect, and just look at who he chose as Vice President and the others he is choosing for his inner circle. I believe this is outward demonstration that the man has a changed heart, and though he is not perfect, neither am I. I think we all would cringe if some of our words and conversations from times past were aired out before the entire world. Just my thoughts...thank you ever so much for reading what God placed upon my heart and for sharing your concerns and thoughts here. Sending you lots of love and hugs from the USA, and I trust you are feeling so much better by now. I am praying for you, sweet friend. :)

    2. Dear Elizabeth,
For us, it's a matter of who will appoint Supreme Court judges who will uphold our Constitution and protect life and marriage. Mr. Trump is has pledged to do that. Mrs. Clinton has pledged to fight against all those things. That's why I'm voting for Mr. Trump. A year and a half ago, he accepted Christ. He's surrounding himself with Christians. It will take time, but he will grow in Christ. He's just having the dubious honor of having all his dirty laundry shown to the entire country as he grows.

      Be blessed!
      Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage

  3. Oh Cheryl,
As I read your blog post, I felt cold chills run down my spine. Yes,yes this election is so very important for our precious unborn children.. Their right to take that first breath. My heart is breaking too.
I was very torn with the canidates we had to choose from. I even said, in the beginning that I would NEVER vote for Trump. but, when the end of the choosing canidates came and we were left with Trump and Hillary.. I knew , there was no choice. We have to vote for our beliefs. and My God teaches me that murdering children is wrong. If we put Hillary in , she outright told her belief on that topic.. Then we have the thing of the judges being appointed.. My prayer is that everyone will vote, and remember those babies when they mark that selection.
Thank you for the post. I know it is a very hard thing to do.. May God bless you and your family.

    1. Dear Judy! I was in tears by the time I finished reading your precious encouragement. I needed it today, and God always knows when we need it the most. I hope they remember those babies, too...dear Lord, help us all. I often think of Moses and how he interceded for Israel when God was ready to obliterate them, and I cry out to God the more to hear the cry of those of us who have our spiritual eyes open. I so appreciate you, sweet friend. God bless you abundantly!

    2. One other thing to consider, Judy, is that President Obama writes executive orders any time he wants. Do you think Mrs. Clinton will do that? I do.
      Be blessed friend,
      Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage

  4. At the moment the world is in great turmoil and, it seems, that Christianity, and Christian principles, are in retreat. It is as if the devil has been allowed free rein throughout the world.

Here in the UK Christianity is often mocked on TV and the media, and often celebrities and opinion formers pronounce proudly that they do not believe "in a bearded man sitting on a cloud" (actual words used by a comedian to describe God); thus encouraging others to follow their example.

Whilst this can be very distressing, as your post portrays, let us remember that God is still in control. He is still Supreme and Omnipotent. His will be done, in His own way and in His own time. Let us trust Him to do so.

    God bless you.

    1. Oh, Victor! You are so right. It sounds like the UK is about like it is here. There is much disdain for Christianity and any mention of our dear Lord. My dear husband often tells me that it is because if people acknowledge God, then they know there is Someone they have to be accountable to. Whether they want to admit accountability or not, we will ALL stand at the judgement seat of Christ and give an account of the deeds done in this body. Thank you for reminded me that God is still in control. You didn't know it all those years ago, but when you recorded that radio show, your words would speak to me very powerfully today as I listened to them. They were so relevant and pertinent to now. God bless you, my friend.

    2. I'll be posting more of my recordings from time to time on my Blog; some made since those radio days. Perhaps some of you readers may like to listen in too.

Let us trust in God together and pray that He will take care of us.

      God bless.

  5. Thank you Cheryl for sharing your heart! I know that you have prayed and prayed over this country and this decision and I respect that. I have came to the conclusion on this election that God is very much in control. No matter who we vote for, He has told us in His word that He is coming back soon and this world is going to be downright awful, lovers of themselves, hateful, just forsaking God Himself. The world in its lostness and sin is going to be destroyed. It is going to happen no matter who we vote for. The United States has never been guaranteed to be the way it was founded on just like any other country. Donald trump is just like Hillary. He is going to do maybe very little good for us because he is a man who has no principles and is not going to do what he says. So since it is enviatable that we are going to get the worse deal either way and Our world is going to be gone, why vote for someone I don't like. It doesn't matter. But thank you for being honest and sharing.

    1. Dear Kristina! Bless your dear pains me to hear you sounding so hopeless. I can SO relate. We all have to do what we feel God is leading us to, and I surely respect your decision. I know you follow Jesus closely and that you also carry a very strong burden for this nation of ours. I appreciate you and your kind heart and love for Jesus. Please be encouraged, and know that I am praying for you. Wish I could give you a big hug in person, but I am sending you lots of love and hugs from here!!

    2. OH I am not hopeless. It kinda makes me excited that Jesus could be coming back. I guess you can say it is just a realistic point of view. But hey I would still take that hug though. You are always such an encouraging person. Thank you for your heart.

    3. Thank you so much, sweet friend. :)

  6. Thank you for posting your thoughts on this, Cheryl. Reading about abortion and the pain of women who have aborted their babies makes me so sad.

    1. Thank you so much for reading and hearing my heart, dear friend. Oh, my, I know what you is beyond heart-wrenching. God bless you!

  7. This has been a hard election. I also do feel strongly that voting is important and that we should stand up strong for the life of the unborn. Personally I am not comfortable voting for either Clinton or Trump on that regard (and many, many others) so I will be doing something I have never done before and voting 3rd party. Evan McMullin is the candidate that won my vote this year. It is not an easy decision and we don't have any perfect candidates but I am willing to support him because I believe my vote will make a statement and because I think he actually does have a chance to win and most of all because he stands strong for life and the majority of the principles that I care about.

    1. I have never heard of Evan McMullin...unfortunately, without the national exposure, he won't have a chance to win, which is sad. I am sure if you feel this strongly about his candidacy, he must be someone who aligns with your Christian morals. The reality that we all have to face is that our next president will definitely be Trump or Clinton, and I can only plead with God for the mercy of allowing the one to win who will most protect the innocent unborn. It just breaks my heart in two...I can hardly bear to think of the little lives that have been snuffed out so mercilessly! Thank you for sharing your thoughts here, Abbi, and may God bless you and your sweet family!

    2. Dear Abbi,
I'm the Laura that Cheryl talked about in her post. Here's a little of what I wrote about third party voting. I'll put the link to the entire post at the bottom. Please reconsider voting third party.

Thoughts on Voting 2016 ~ I LOVE MY COUNTRY

      Here's the thing.
      I don't like Trump. I don't like Clinton.

I feel a moral obligation to vote. Where does that leave me as a Christian?

In order for my vote to actually count, I must vote for one or the other.

The most important issue of this election, to me, is The Supreme Court.

Who is going to appoint judges who will uphold the Constitution and Bill of Rights in a manner consistent with the Founders' original intent?

I am absolutely certain that Hillary Clinton will not be that person.

I believe that Trump will appoint conservative judges who will do their best to uphold the Constitution. That is major for our country. The Constitution is the glue that holds us all together. It's what will protect our children, our grandchildren and future generations until the Lord returns—IF WE DON'T LET THE JUDGES LEGISLATE FROM THE BENCH!

One final issue—President Obama has made Executive Orders that bypass Congress. I believe that, following his example, Mrs. Clinton would do the same.

I love my country, and I love my God. Sometimes God uses the ungodly to do his will. Trump is surrounding himself with godly people and I've heard he prayed for salvation 1 1/2 years ago. I don't know about that part, but I know that Hillary is absolutely against everything we believe in and against us deplorables.

      God bless you!

P.S. Cheryl, I've hijacked your blog. Just delete this if you want. No hard feelings. Love you friend!

    3. My dear friend! You can hijack my blog anytime you want! You and me...we are kindred spirits with the same vision and same burden. Honestly, I wouldn't even hesitate for you to write anything God lays on your heart here. I so appreciate your wisdom and perspective on things. There are certainly no hard feelings...I feel abundantly blessed by your sharing, and I am honored that you feel the liberty to do so. Love and appreciate you so much!

  8. I just wanted to add a "Thank you!" for the encouragement to pray and seek God's leading. That is so needed!

    1. No problem! We all need to do this with an open heart, that's for sure! He is our only hope. Dear Lord, help us all.

  9. My Dear Cheryl,

You have written about such a difficult subject, and I don't know ANYONE, on either side of the party lines, who is not torn about this election. We can only pray and trust the Lord and know that HE is in control, not the man or woman who is elected to this position, whoever it will be.

The blood that has been spilled through abortions is absolutely horrific, and I was reading where 47.8 out of every 1000 black children are aborted, that is approximately 50% of an entire race of people here in the US being aborted every year! And yet, you see the largest race of people supporting Mrs. Clinton to be that demographic of people. It is beyond my understanding of it all, just sickening and heartbreaking though!

I do not have time tonight to listen to the video message you have shared, hopefully maybe this weekend I will. One thing that does bring me hope if Trump is elected, is that it does seem, as you have shared, that he does seem to be surrounding himself with people who have strong convictions.

In the end, voting is our right, and yet, whoever is elected, our Lord will still be with us. And that remains a great comfort to me.

Hugs to you dear friend, appreciate you so much more than you know!

    1. I know what you mean, dear friend! I don't ever remember (in my lifetime) of a time when our country has been more divided. Oh, the tension...and contention! It is so sad to me, but when it all boils down, all we can do is pray and vote. As I prayed so hard tonight, weeping and pouring out my heart, the dear Lord spoke to me and let me know that I truly have done all I can do. If He chooses to have mercy, then He will have mercy. If not, we will continue this horrible downward spiral. I saw a vision while I was praying tonight. I will try to explain it to you in our private emails. It was VERY startling to me, and it happened when I was really deep into the spirit of prayer. It is like dear Zach told me earlier...the only true peace comes from total surrender. When we have done all we can do, all that is left is to surrender and trust. He will be God, regardless. Sending you much love and gratitude for your precious encouragement and support.

  10. Love you friend. Thanks for speaking out for truth and freedom.

    1. Love you so much, too! Thank you for all you do and for the encouragement and support you are to me. :) I am so blessed to be walking this blogging journey with you, my friend.

  11. Cheryl, I love your heart for your country. Being north of the border, I am not in the difficult position you are in, but my heart feels for you. I appreciate your outlook. I pray for both of our countries for God's mercy and healing for our lands.

    1. Thank you so much, Margaret. Oh, my heart just breaks tonight! Things do not look good for the outcome tomorrow. It is very alarming, and our nation seems intent upon continuing this fast-moving downward spiral. I am STILL begging God to have mercy and turn the tide tomorrow, and plan to join in with Franklin Graham in special prayer at 9:00 pm. God is our only hope! I so appreciate your sweet visit and kind words!

  12. Dear Cheryl, My husband and I listened to that sermon tonight while we were painting my new office. It was one of the best sermons I have ever heard!! He brought up so many good points and his approach was very matter of fact.

I have been aghast watching friends of mine on Facebook putting up detrimental posts about Trump, and I'm thinking to myself. So wait, we only have two candidates, what is it then you are choosing?! A baby killer!!

I pray that the many Christians who say they either aren't voting or are going to do a write-in will gain wisdom and discernment and realize what that choice would ultimately lead to. I also pray that the Lord will have mercy on this nation. Even though we don't deserve it. May God continue to bless the United States of America.

Thank you for sharing this sermon. It is important for EVERY Christian to listen to!

I appreciate you so much and how you always uphold the Kingdom of God. You are such a dear blessing to me.

    Sending you much love,

    1. Dear, precious friend! Your words of encouragement were just such a blessing to me, as always. I am so thankful you and your husband were able to listen to that sermon. OH, it has really been a blessing to us, too! I love and appreciate you so very much, sweet friend. :)

  13. I hear what you (and some other commenters here) are saying, but consider: Many of the actions that Trump says he plans to take (turning back refugees, scaling back on gun controls, a willingness to use nuclear force, etc.) are guaranteed to kill more children than any program that Clinton has agreed to. And abortion rates have decreased by almost 10% since Obama has been in office.

I think voting on a single issue (as Karen puts it, above, 'a baby killer') might not be considering the totality of the harm caused to children as a result of Trump's actions.

    1. Dear Sarah, Thank you so much for your visit here and for taking the time to comment. I appreciate your courtesy and the respect you showed while voicing your opinion. Have a wonderful day!

  14. Thank you for sharing your challenge with us here at Tell me a Story. I too have encouraged others who are not in the habit of voting to do their civic duty and duty to God and get out there and vote. I know at least 3 made the choice to vote because of my prompting. Here in California our vote did not count because of the electoral college, but regardless, it was important to take a stand and let our voice (and marking pens) be heard.

    1. I is a shame that so many do not even feel that their vote matters. But, I am proud of you for going out and voting, regardless. I am very thankful for God's mercy, and now we need to pray hard for our new president and leaders that God will fill them with wisdom to get our nation back on a Godly track.

  15. I'm so glad the election is over! I'm ready for the country to move forward. Thanks for sharing at #DreamTogether!

    1. Thank you for stopping by, Alecia. :) God bless you!

  16. Oh my goodness, this election was crazy. And that wasn't even the worst of it! I had to back out of facebook (again, like I did years ago)because of the downright EVIL going on there since the election! (Not that facebook was ever really what I would call a Godly place...hence my leaving.) I cannot believe the pure evil coming out of people's mouths and hearts now. I mean, I know we were warned of it, but it's still hard to understand, at least for me. I am not able to handle a lot of negativity, so this outrage, chaos and insanity is hard for me to deal with. It's a sad state and I am thankful to have the Lord to lean on now, more than ever!

    1. You probably don't want to get me started on a rant about facebook...LOL! To be honest, I think it is mostly evil...just my opinion. The self-promotion, self-exaltation, gossip-fests, competitiveness, and platform for evil just really makes me not want to have anything to do with it...ever. I have never had a facebook account, nor do I want one. No desire. Life is hard enough to navigate, without adding all of that unnecessary drama. I am thankful we have a choice and do not have to pursue what vexes us...who needs that? Take care, Ang, and thanks for stopping by!! God bless you and your family. :)

  17. Thanks for linking up on Mondays @ Soul Survival. Thanks giving blessings!

    1. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to link up, Donna! God bless you, my friend. :)
